MCF Group Estonia is investing approximately 100 million euros in the Greenergy Data Centers facility to build, by the end of the year, the first data centre in the Baltics offering AI infrastructure.

According to Kert Evert, CEO of MCF Group Estonia, preparatory construction work has already begun and roughly half of the expansion budget goes to general construction. The main contractor for the expansion is Caverion Suomi.

“Delivering AI infrastructure projects requires experience that can only be gained by building the world’s most complex technical facilities. Caverion has excellent experience delivering similar projects in the Nordics,” said Evert.

A number of Estonian design, construction, manufacturing and technology companies are involved in the project. Switchgear is supplied by ESB Group and construction supervision is carried out by Inseneribüroo Telora. At the peak of construction, close to 200 people will work on site.

Evert said development of the Greenergy data centre began ten years ago with a long-term vision.

“In the race in which AI clusters of tens and hundreds of megawatts are being built in neighbouring countries, our long-term goal is to develop Greenergy Data Centers into one of Northern Europe’s leading AI hosting centres,” said Evert.

According to Evert, Tensor Estate’s investment supported Greenergy’s development plans.

“In addition to capital, Tensor Estate brought international AI-sector contacts and the conviction that it is possible to build something in Estonia that plays at the European level,” said Evert.

Based on customer demand, Greenergy is exploring further expansion. In addition to the current expansion, the company has already applied to Elering to increase its grid connection capacity, which would allow the data centre’s capacity to be raised to approximately 200 megawatts.

According to Miko Niinemäe, CEO and co-founder of Tensor Estate, they invested in Greenergy Data Centers in the belief that Estonia has too little industrial investment and needs more high value-added investment that creates economic growth.

“We believe that European-level AI infrastructure can be built in Estonia too. International technology companies make decisions based on facts, the quality of infrastructure and the capability of partners, and I am confident that Estonia can meet those expectations. Our role is to bring international AI customers here and support the development of the infrastructure,” said Niinemäe.
